PlayStation 2 RPG of the Year - Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
Despite the prowess and the promise of the current generation of consoles, Sony's venerable PlayStation 2 is still the place to be for RPGs. 2008 saw the likes of Mana Khemia- The Alchemists of Al-Revis, Persona 3: FES, and our winner Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4. Persona 3 was a masterpiece among console RPGs and Persona 4 enhanced what made Persona 3 great while also smoothing out its flaws. The result was an RPG as refreshing as Persona 3 but with a more involved storyline, smoother gameplay and a modern-day rural Japan setting unique to the entire Shin Megami Tensei series and RPGs as a whole. The unique visual design, the fun gameplay, the modern music, and the often bizarre storyline made for an RPG experience just as memorable, if not more memorable, as Persona 3.
