More Square RPGs In The Works For The WonderSwan Color

Square has announced a new WonderSwan Color game series, known as Square Masterpiece, aiming to port or remake for the WSC previous Famicom, SFC or GB hits. The first four titles announced to join the series should be:
  • Makaitoushi SaGa, a GB RPG known in the US as Final Fantasy Legend
  • Romancing SaGa (not to be mistaken with the former SaGa), which was announced in 1999 and is still waiting for even a firm release date,
  • Dice de Chocobo, a remake of the PlayStation Chocobo-themed game.
  • and Hanjuku Hero, a complete remake of the Super Famicom version.

Hanjuku Hero is the only one to have a release date so far and is scheduled for December 2001; Square is planning to add new "egg monsters" to the game, created from players' submissions through a campaign organized on PlayOnline a few months ago. Hanjuku Hero should retail for 5,200 yen.

While Final Fantasy III and Front Mission have yet to receive a release date, the other rumored Square WSC remakes, Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 2 and Seiken Densetsu 2, have not even been confirmed. One could wonder when one of these 6 to 8 titles supposedly in the works will finally be out.
