SCE Releases First Quarter FY04 Financial Data

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced its financial data for the first quarter of the current fiscal year. Total shipments of PlayStation 2 hardware have reached 53.85 million units, with worldwide software shipments totalling 381 million copies. In the meantime, the good old PlayStation (One) reached a worldwide installed hardware base of 97.24 million units and 925 million copies of software. While sales of PlayStation 2 hardware and PlayStation One software decreased in comparison to last fiscal year's first quarter, sales of PlayStation 2 software and PlayStation One hardware were up from last year. Total sales were down by 18.2% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, to 125.2 billion yen (1.05 billion USD). The operating profit was also down by 31.6% to 800 million yen (6.74 million USD).
