Ultra-Retro Soundtracks Update
As a follow-up to Retro Remix Revue, we go even more retro...
11.08.09 - 5:54 PM

So, have you ever heard of the game Hokkaido Serial Murders ~ Okhotsk Vanishes? You haven't?! What's wrong with you!

Oh, you're probably just a very normal American gamer.

Well, this game was a graphic adventure in Japan that was ported to every console of its time (1985 to 1991). We have two soundtracks for this game, which both have the same title. One, an arranged album, was released with the NES version of the game, and another soundtrack (this time with the NES tracks on a second disc), was released in 2002. A song from this game, which is remembered because Yuji Horii of Dragon Quest fame helped create it, will be featured on "Piacom Vol. 1," the Piano Collection with oldschool game music coming from Dog Ear Records. So now you have reason to be interested.

Next up! Have you traveled the "Rainbow Silkroad" in an NES RPG? I have!

Rainbow Silkroad was an RPG that stayed in Japan. It was an NES title, and it started you in Damascus, Jerusalem, Mecca, and other such ancient cities of note. And you travel east to China and Japan. This soundtrack has some absurd arranged tracks and some decent OST tracks.

Finally, we have all three CD releases for the Xak RPG trilogy, which was on the MSX and PC Engine consoles in Japan. The first two of the three games feature music from Ryuji Sasai. Definitely worth checking out.

And those are our ultra-obscure soundtracks for November... as promised! I know there are plenty of new releases you may be interested in. But I hope you enjoy this taste of 20+ year-old RPG music.
