OK, OK I know a lot of people knock this game but it ties up a lot of loose ends and adds a lot of room for sequels in the future. While not as revolutionary as PS1 or as long as PS2 it covers the story of the survivors of Palma from PS2 and answers a few what happened questions. I personnally play this game a lot more than most would and find its more medievil style appealling while still including plenty of PS-style Sci fi themes.

The Graphics
The graphics were nice bright but not with as much detail in the background. The character sprites however were very well done. The lack of combat animations of the characters and limited enemy animation hurt it a little but the enemies were HUGE and very detailed. The graphics while not spectacular weren't hard on the eyes either. Graphics-88%

The music
The music in the dungeons and overworlds and title screen music were great and very catchy, however town and battle music got annoying very quickly. The sound effects were sort of weak as well with just minor sound effects on attacks and mostly just beeps and boops. sound-75%

Storyline
Now the story is where Phantasy Star 3 shines. The journey spans three generations and your main character will be determined at points in the game where you must choose a woman that your main character will marry, then you will eventually take control of their son. Two constant comrades to you will be Mieu and Wren two unaging cyborg warriors who fight for the royal family. Many others will join you some only if you have certain main characters which gives the game a lot of replay value. You begin as Prince Rhys of Landen a descendent of the legendary hero Orakio, and your bride is kidnapped on your wedding day. You set out on a journey to rescue her. Not knowing the true problems facing your world. You will discover many things about the past of your people and why they left their homeworld. You also will find out your journey to a new world is not complete and you must ensure the safety of all the people until it is. Story-99%

Game play
Combat system was very fast and you never were in battle long, your characters level up reasonably quickly and the menu system was doable. Nothing outstanding but the gameplay had no glaring flaws either ... just adequate. gameplay-80%

Wrap up
Phantasy Star 3 was a good RPG and worthy of the title "Phantasy Star", The ending of PS3 was intriguing and left a huge "What if" for a sequel. The characters didn't have a lot of personality but the story covered well and made them look like heroes anyway. PS3 had a lot of surprises near the end and was very challenging.

the story was great and carried the rest of the game well. Overall-86%

WHAT IF.....
The main character could have married Mieu... can you say ... Tough... he woulda kicked butt!

Compared to previous PS games, the houses in this one were proportional to the characters.

Rhys tries to take the army to rescue his fiancee but his father throws him in jail.
