To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Rhapsody series, Nippon Ichi Software will release Rhapsody: 25th Anniversary Collection, a special physical compilation of all three games: A Musical Adventure, Ballad of the Little Princess, and Memories of Marl Kingdom. At this time, only a Japanese release is confirmed for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, coming on August 29th, but Western fans and physical collectors alike will surely be waiting with bated breath for details of an English version.

A website for Rhapsody: 25th Anniversary Collection was first unveiled in January, and now it’s been updated to show off the very regal packaging of the collection, which will also include 3 CDs with each game’s OST plus some art cards. NIS posted an announcement video to Twitter/X (below) that should have enough visual information for prospective collectors.

The latter two games in the Rhapsody series were made available in English for the first time in 2023 with the arrival of Rhapsody: Marl Kingdom Chronicles, which brought Rhapsody II & III to the English-speaking world for the first time. Although previously available in English, the first game in the series also received a modern port in 2022 through Prinny Presents NIS Classics Vol. 3, a double pack with La Pucelle: Ragnarok. My hope, and I’m sure many others, is that NIS will want to share this celebration throughout the world, and not keep this a Japan-only release.

The Rhapsody series has received a lot of love from RPGFan over the last couple of years. Our own Des Miller reviewed all three games between 2022 and 2023, while Mike Sollosi delivered a two-part series retrospective on Retro Encounter (Part 1, Part 2). I will certainly be giving the Rhapsody: 25th Anniversary Collection some love if I can get my hands on it, hopefully in the not-too-distant future.

When he’s not writing for RPGFan, you’ll find him nonchalantly leaning against the ballroom wall being the “best looking guy here.” …whatever.
