Neverway is a Spooky Take on Life Sims

Fiona discovers that she's another member of the community in Neverway

One of the many games that had RPGFan buzzing over the last few days was the nightmarish life sim Neverway, the debut game from indie studio Coldblood. No release details were announced, but PC gamers can wishlist the game on Steam.

Although officially announced back in early April, Neverway made waves during the recent Day of the Devs show. It’s what I would describe as, “Stardew Valley on nightmare fuel.” The comparisons are easy to see; the literal art and gameplay styles give a fairly good impression of life in the valley, but as you become more familiar with protagonist Fiona and her goals, Neverway quickly sets itself apart.

Fiona’s origin story is a familiar one, at least initially: caught in a dead-end job, she decides to quit and start over on a farm. Sound familiar, Stardew fans? Not so fast. Before you know it, Fiona has been enlisted as the immortal herald of a dead god. While players can expect to make new friends (and possible romances), catch fish, and occupy their time with basic farm life; they will also need to prepare Fiona to fight through various horrors and work to pay off her debt.

Piqued your curiosity? Then be sure to check out the trailer below, as well as the latest screenshots and a more in-depth overview via Steam.

Kyle is just embarking on his main quest at RPGFan and couldn't be more excited to join the team. He discovered the RPGFan community a couple of years ago and, after growing up in Western Canada as a "jock," was thrilled to realize that there were others in the world who learned roman numerals as a teenager thanks to the Final Fantasy series. Contributing to the news team is his main objective at the site and it is his goal to project the confidence of Ron Burgundy while keeping everyone from realizing he might just be Brick Tamland.
