The Outer Worlds 2 Invades October 29th

The power of capitalism is alive and well! Long live satire, market share, and Obsidian Entertainment, as The Outer Worlds 2 launches October 29th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Since 2024, Xbox showcases have been must-see TV for gaming fans. After all, it was just one year ago, almost to the day, that GOTY contender Dragon Age: The Veilguard shocked us with its companion reveal trailer and release date. While The Outer Worlds 2 was expected in 2025, it’s always nice to receive confirmation for one of our most anticipated games of 2025.

We last heard from The Outer Worlds 2 back in early December, but Obsidian is clearly putting the full-court press on during Summer Game Fest weekend. A fairly lengthy blog entry on Xbox Wire provides more details on the story, setting, and pricing.

The base game will cost $79.99 USD. For those that love themselves some good ol’ fashioned capitalism, there’s also a premium edition available for pre-order ($99.99) that includes:

  • The Outer Worlds 2 base game
  • Up to 5 days early access
  • DLC Pass for 2 future story expansions (available as released)
  • Moon Man’s Corporate Appreciation Premium Prize Pack
  • Access to The Outer Worlds 2 Digital Artbook & Original Soundtrack

As far as the Xbox Games Showcase trailer and the above-mentioned direct, we’ve got you covered with those below. You’ll also find a synopsis and screenshots.

The Outer Worlds 2 pulls you into Arcadia – a colony isolated from the rest of the system, fought over by power-hungry factions, and on the brink of near to mid-term collapse by rifts forming in the space around it. With the future up for grabs, survival might depend on your choices, your alliances… and maybe a few well-placed deals along the way.

Featured in the Xbox Games Showcase and expanded in today’s The Outer Worlds 2 Direct, this bigger, bolder sequel builds on everything fans loved about the original: deeper RPG systems, sharper satire, and wildly reactive storytelling. With new companions, enhanced movement and combat, science weapons and armor, and full character customization, The Outer Worlds 2 puts you at the center of a chaotic struggle for Arcadia’s future.

Launching October 29, 2025, it hands you the chaos and asks: what are you going to do with it? The world needs a hero. You’ll have to do.

If you have yet to check out the original game, we highly suggest you do. In his review, Jono Logan describes The Outer Worlds as “a triumph for Obsidian Entertainment and AA games in general.” If you are a fan of games like Fallout: New Vegas or the studio’s work in general, The Outer Worlds series absolutely needs to be on your radar.
